Style Crush- Gigi Hadid

I am seriously crushing on Gigi Hadid's cool and sophisticated street style. Taking model off duty to a whole new level, Gigi nails her down time outfits time after time. I love the monochrome base that she explores and plays with by adding patterns, splashes of colour and denim. I find that for going into an Australian autumn, which is a slightly cooler Summer, her style is definitely the one to imitate.

The First Post

Hello? Is this thing working?

That’s right, it’s my very first blog post!  Apologies in advance for any appalling writing or disruption of flow… you have been warned.

So I was think about what I would write in my very first introduction to the wonderful world that is blogging and I decided to tell you all about a place that is very special to me. This place is called Innisfail. A fairly unremarkably sounding name for, if I’m being honest, a fairly unremarkable town. Innisfail is around an hour’s drive from Cairns and its town centre consists of only two streets, mainly full of little family run stores that look like they haven’t been renovated since the 80s – hardly a booming metropolis. It is for this reason that I use to complain profusely about visiting Innisfail the two or three time a year we went to visit all my relatives that live there. How was I supposed to see the newest Nicholas Sparks film when the town didn’t even have a cinema?!

Fortunately, I said used to complain. The older I’ve gotten, the more I enjoy going up to Innisfail. It is the town where my mum grew up and just being there I feel closer to her as she points out the places and people that were part of her childhood and adolescent years. Everyone knows everyone else – a trip into town turns into a family reunion but this just further establishes the sense of community that is missing in the more populated city where I live. No one is in a rush, everyone is in the right place at the right time and there is always, always time for a chat. It’s refreshing to be transported back to the simpler forms of communication that existed before we all bought iPhones and took up busier lives.

But even with that aside, if you take a moment to stand back and look – and there is plenty of time to look when you have limited phone reception – Innisfail is actually a really aesthetically beautiful place. I couldn’t resist taking a few snaps while I was up there for Easter a few weeks ago, there were so many lovely sunsets.

And without the usual restaurants, shops and entertainment, I got to go outdoors and get active! I went snorkelling, on beach walks, did some baking, went fishing etc. It was fun to do so many different activities.

So who knew? The torture town of my younger years has become one of my new favourite places to get away from it all on a holiday… It goes to show that a simpler lifestyle can be really enjoyable, even if only for a week. I definitely recommend you try it, whether you just take a drive out to Maleny or buy a place ticket to Innisfail right now, a quiet moment will do anyone the world of good.

Update

Hello beautiful people!

Today I am feeling great because I have finished my very first exam block (a whole week dedicated to completing exams) of grade 12! Yay!! The completion of this week is doubly exciting because I have some very new and exciting things that will be happening in the next few weeks.

First things first (I'm the realest...I'm sorry I had to go there), but my formal is coming up next week! For all of you who are not Australian, this is the same as a senior prom, which means that it is very exciting! I am going to take a heap of photos, obviously, and will post them up on here! Secondly, after the formal I am on my two week Easter holidays, which will entail lots of outings and photo outfit opportunities, and I am going to experiment with my blogging style. I am hoping to be posting at least twice a week during the holiday period and have created many posts to upkeep my once a week posting I have been attempting to do during the school term.

I just wanted to keep you updated on what's going on with the blog. I update fairly frequently on social media (links on the side bar), so follow me on instagram- @denimdaydreamblog

I hope you are just as excited as I am about what is to come!

Until next time lovelies,

Outfit of The Week- Walk The Plank

Hey guys, long time no post! I am so sorry that I haven't been updating all that much recently, but grade 12 is really taking it out of me. I wish I had more time for blogging as I do love the whole process, so hopefully I will have plenty of time to make a heap of posts during my break. There are many things that I am hoping to do with this blog, and new content should be coming soon! So many exciting things! I can't wait!! Now, back to this weeks OOTW...

This Sunday's outfit of the week features these beautiful shorts and top hand made by Dyani. They are such quality and look so cute, we could hardly resist! The high waisted design of these shorts make them a very versatile piece of clothing, allowing you to wear cropped tops and also to tuck in longer tops. The pirate print is just so cute and fun, and is very unique, I've not ever seen a pattern quite like it. Thank you to my beautiful sister for modelling her adorable shorts!

Until next time my lovelies,

Want to Make a Difference?

I, as a girl in the 21st century, want to feel as though I am honouring the women of my past, who fought hard throughout the first and second waves of feminism. I want to use my education, my rights, my voice to try and make a positive change for someone else, as they did for me all of those years ago. However, making this decision was the easy part, the difficult part is actually finding a way to make this contribution.

No longer do we protest through strikes, picket fences and tying ourselves to trees. Sure, these sort of protests do still exist, which I think is great, but as a student living in Australia, a country that is fortunate to have few problems (not saying that we don't have any, but that is a discussion to be had at another time), I do not have the opportunity to join in these said protests. So, in my desperation I have turned to my second home, the big blue, the Internet.

If you know what you are looking for, there are millions of sites, groups and campaigners asking for people to sign their petitions, join letter writing campaigns and to help make a difference. I was amazed that this was all out there, and I didn't even have a clue!

This website is extremely useful and effective. You simply put in your location and servers will bring up petitions that are related to you and your area. To sign up, you simply find a petition fighting for something you agree with and believe in, put in your details and once you click sign petition, you will be signed up to the site. From there, you can track the progress of the petition, share with your friends and find out whether the petition has been successful or not.

Yet another very good website for raising awareness. The difference between this site and change.org is that global citizen is not solely built upon petitions that relate to you and your country. This site provides information on issues that are world wide, some contain petitions you can sign, others simply have a whole lot of interesting information that you have the opportunity to research further and to share with others. You earn points for sharing and signing petitions, so you can see how involved and how much of a difference in raising awareness you are helping out with.

You can also join letter writing campaigns for environmental, political or social issues. Simply go to the good old Google search bar and type in something along the lines of " (Issue) letter writing", and something is bound to come up. If not, find the council or organisation website, make an enquiry about letter writing services and go from there.

I am so glad that I took the step to find out how I can feel like and make a difference in the world and with issues that I care about greatly. I would love to see what you guys can do, because as citizens in a global society, and being the ones privileged and lucky enough to live in countries that value education and provide opportunities to help make a difference, it is our duty to do all we can to help others experience the life we do everyday.

I hope you enjoyed this different kind of post!

Until next time lovelies,
Neve xx
